Provider offers absorbents to manage hazardous drug cleanup
On Dec. 1, most pharmacies (especially compounding pharmacies) will need to be in compliance with USP <800>, Hazardous Drugs – Handling in Healthcare Settings. US Pharmacopeia, which originated the standard, is not involved with its enforcement; that devolves to other federal and state organizations. And while it was written by a compounding expert committee within USP, its recommendations apply to many healthcare settings where exposure to hazardous drugs is a possibility.
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, to cite one such federal agency, has been publishing a NIOSH List of Antineoplastic and Other Hazardous Drugs in Healthcare Settings since 2004; the 2016 compilation runs 34 pages of drugs grouped in three categories, representing risks of antineoplastic exposure, reproductive harm or other potential harm to human health.
USP <800> covers a variety of safety procedures, including facility controls, personnel protective equipment, spill control and decontamination. For spill control and cleanup, Impact Absorbents is pleased to offer the Spill Hero Hazardous Drug Kit, a new drug waste cleanup and disposal kit. It is available as a Spill Hero Hazardous Drug Basic Personal Protection Kit and a Spill Hero Hazardous Drug Deluxe Compounding Kit. The features and benefits of the Spill Hero Hazardous Drug Kits include:
Personal protection equipment (PPE) and tools to keep your employees safe and protected during hazardous drug interactions
All necessary supplies for spill clean up and disposal of hazardous drugs:
Most important of all, our new Hazardous Drug Kits meet USP 800 standards for compliance. More information is available as xsorb.com.
