Plant is expected to offer packaging, serialization, and third-party contract manufacturing services.
Upsher-Smith Laboratories, a specialty-brand and generics company, has officially opened a new manufacturing facility in Maple Grove, Minn. Assembled to support third-party contract manufacturing, the 270,000 square-foot complex is expected to provide packaging and serialization capabilities that are compliant with FDA guidelines. As noted by Rich Fisher, Upsher-Smith’s president and COO, a major goal of the facility will not only be production, but to also seek out partners who provide “end-to-end supply chain solutions.”
The Minnesota center’s offerings consist of environmentally sustainable solvent and aqueous-based oral solid dosage (OSD) manufacturing in tablet or capsule form, powders, liquids, and suspensions.
Serialized packaging solutions include OSD/liquid bottles, unit dose blisters, and liquid cups, along with powder filling in sachets, bottles, and cans. Outbound packaging configurations are also reportedly grouped in accordance with pending Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) conformance standards.
