UPS Inks Deal for Bomi Group

UPS Healthcare continues its relatively aggressive expansion plans, now adding Bomi Group, which performs mostly healthcare logistics in 24 countries (14 with temperature-controlled facilities). Since its founding in 1985, the company, based in Spino d’Adda (near Milan) has grown to 3,000 employees and 4 million sq. ft. (391,000 sq. m.) of warehousing. Bomi performs many of the pharma-specific logistics services that UPS Healthcare does, including labeling and packaging and direct-to-patient deliveries.

With the acquisition, UPS also inherits more than 350 temperature-controlled vehicles and notes that the move will play a vital role in the delivery of pharma and biologic treatments that require time-critical and temperature-sensitive logistics.

Financial terms of the acquisition, expected to close by year-end, were not disclosed. Bomi Group leaders and employees, including CEO Marco Ruini, will continue in their roles after the deal closes.

For its part UPS Healthcare Logistics continues to build out both commercial and clinical research depots (part of its Marken subsidiary), with newly opening locations in Germany, Australia, Hungary and the Netherlands.
