Award was earned at 2014 BioPharma Asia meeting in Singapore
Although it lacks the imprimatur of an official government or industry association, the award won by Marken (Raleigh, NC) is still significant because it drew on the >1,000 attendees of the meeting, held in Singapore (March 10-13) and sponsored by Terrapinn Holdings Ltd., a UK conference company. Conference organizers select five candidates in each of six categories, and Marken was the winner in the supply chain / logistics category.
Michael Culme-Seymour, Marken VP, Asia Pacific Region said this about the award, "Marken proudly accepts this award as an acknowledgment of our growing service to the industry in the APAC region. Our dedicated staff at the depots and branches in Singapore, Beijing and the entire region provides the passion and service to our clients that drive the key indicators behind this award." The company will be opening its recently commissioned Beijing depot later in March, and has been building out additional depots in Europe and South America. The Singapore facility was recently certified as ISO 13485-compliant.
Besides being a growth area for clinical trials—which more and more need the temperature-controlled logistics services of companies like Marken—the region is continuing its steady growth in pharma industry planning. AbbVie announced a major manufacturing expansion in Singapore; IMS Health, the market-data provider, forecasts that China will be the No. 2 market for pharmaceuticals by 2017, displacing Japan.
